JERRY SHEPARD RETIRES AFTER ONLY 52 YEARS
Jerry Shepard has retired after spending 52 years at Antex Electronics and its predecessor companies. Shepard, 80, who joined Modern Industries in 1957, saw the company he worked for become Escom and later on Guardian Electronics. Guardian’s president, Jim Antrim re-organized the company into Antex in 1983. In other words, Jerry was employed at the company longer than Antex had been in existence.
Jerry’s “Document Coordinator” position at Antex was responsible for all of the certifications and safety documents that are part of today’s electronic products. His responsibilities also included cad drawings of new products throughout their development cycles. Products that Jerry has been involved with have run the gamut from solid state power supplies to smart relays to satellite and even background music systems.
In a quote from a 2007 newspaper article, Jerry was asked, “What will come first, quitting your job or stop riding the Harley?” His answer was, “I don’t see any end in sight to either, though Antex might be trying to push me out the door.” The truth is that Antex tried to block the door, but Jerry insisted that retiring at 80 had a good ring to it. (Jerry was still riding his Harley virtually everyday, so it looks like the hog won out.)
