ANTEX ELECTRONICS INKS DEAL WITH DMX MUSIC FOR NEXT-GENERATION
AUDIO-VIDEO DELIVERY SYSTEM
"DMX Axis" Incorporates Technologies from Antex,
IBM and Microsoft
Las Vegas, NAB - LVCC, Booth # R-687. (April 10, 2000) --
Antex Electronics, the leading manufacturer of high-end digital
audio equipment for the professional audio, video and broadcast
markets, today announced an agreement in excess of $2 million
with DMX MUSIC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Liberty Digital,
Inc., in which Antex will develop and manufacture for DMX
MUSIC the client hardware of a groundbreaking multimedia delivery
system designed for the commercial marketplace.
Using advanced software technology from IBM and Microsoft,
the initial contract calls for Antex to provide and integrate
its client hardware to "DMX Axis." DMX Axis is a
multimedia system combining hardware, software and the Internet
to deploy and manage the delivery of audio and video content
in an entirely new way.
DMX Axis is optimized for the retail industry, allowing stores
of virtually any size the ability to affordably personalize
their music strategy to specifically cater to their own individual
personality and demographics – complementing the ambiance
they wish to create.
"The combination of our deep and constantly growing
music library with Antex’s proven track record for the
highest quality of hardware manufacturing for digital music
applications is a powerful collaboration that will redefine
the shopping experience, both for the retailer and consumer,"
said Lon Troxel, CEO and president of DMX MUSIC.
DMX Axis blends the Internet’s proven ability for delivering
data quickly and cost-effectively with DMX MUSIC’s digital
music library, one of the largest in the world. The Axis system
comes pre-loaded with hundreds of hours of music. The plug-and-play
receiver resides in the store, while music titles and playlists
are automatically deployed to it (and updated) via an Internet
connection.
"We’re very excited to be building on our already
phenomenal relationship with DMX MUSIC," said Jim Antrim,
president and CEO of Antex. "DMX Axis represents a very
compelling development not only for our company, but for the
whole industry. It’s the first system of its kind in
the world to use the advanced audio compression features of
Windows CE in a desktop appliance, and we’re confident
end users will embrace it enthusiastically for its power and
flexibility to reach customers in a more personal way."
A critical part of Axis is its use of IBM’s Digital
Media Distributor (DMD), an automated system that enables
geographically dispersed organizations to centrally manage,
customize and distribute digital content to numerous remote
locations. DMD consists of two components – the Central
Site, which manages the distribution of digital content, and
the Remote Site, which receives the content and plays it back.
With the DMD platform, part of IBM’s media asset management
architecture, the Axis subscriber terminal can provide digital
messaging, video and dynamic point-of-sale and in-store merchandising
– in addition to its core function of digital music
delivery.
Antex began development of the client hardware for DMX Axis
in November 1999, which is being designed and built at Antex’s
location in Gardena, CA – the only ISO-9001-certified
facility in its industry.
