Antex Announces High End Digital Audio Adapter
SX-23e is the first digital audio adapter to offer both ISO/MPEG
and DOLBY AC-2 compression formats
Gardena, California. (June 1994) -- Antex Electronics Corp.,
the leading manufacturer of professional digital audio processors,
has announced the availability of the most advanced audio
adapter on the market. Supporting a wide variety of compression
formats, the new Series 2/Model SX-23e was designed for OEMs,
systems integrators and computer users who demand the highest
quality audio available today.
Utilizing the Texas Instruments advanced floating point TMS320C31
DSP, the Series 2/SX-23e supports both ISO/MPEG-1 Layer I
& II and Dolby AC-2 compression formats, effectively delivering
compression rates to 16:1. Now, systems integrators can add
superior CD-quality sound to their applications without sacrificing
valuable disk space which means programs will require less
from the CPU and therefore deliver digital audio at a faster
and higher clarity rate. The SX-23e not only supports the
ISO/MPEG and Dolby AC-2 formats, but also a wide variety of
other compression formats, including: OKI ADPCM, Microsoft
ADPCM, DVI ADPCM, CDI ADPCM, CD-ROM XA and 8 and 16 bit PCM.
The widely used ISO/MPEG-1 compression format uses auditory
masking effects to reduce the bit-rate to 96 kbits/second
per channel while maintaining CD-quality audio. As a result,
one-eighth the disk space is required to store the compressed
audio. When operated, the advanced Dolby AC-2 algorithm reduces
the bit rate to 256 kbit/second, a compression ratio of 6:1.
"No other adapter offers the superior quality audio
and multiple compression formats," said Jim Antrim, president
of Antex Electronics. "The SX-23e is the most advanced
16-bit digital audio adapter available today."
Dual device operation offers functionality of 2 boards
The SX-23e also has the ability to record or play two independent
stereo digital audio files simultaneously, giving it the versatility
of two boards. For the professional, this dual device operation
used in conjunction with the SX-23e's digital mixing capabilities
provides the ability to crossfade two digital audio files
during playback. Alternatively, the SX-23e can record a stereo
file on one device while playing back a different file on
the other device.
The SX-23e includes both balanced and unbalanced analog and
AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital input and output for maintaining
the integrity of the original analog or digital signal. This
allows a direct digital connection to professional and consumer
digital audio equipment and provides the ability for network
transmission of audio in digital format.
Built-in security system prevents piracy
Advanced features of the SX-23e include a built-in EEPROM-based
software security scheme. This allows system integrators to
assign each Antex adapter a unique ID number. The SX-23e can
then act as a hardware key enabling system integrators to
instruct their software to look for a particular Antex board.
If the board is not present, the software is disabled or reset
to demo mode - all at the developers discretion. This prevents
piracy and unauthorized execution of the developers software
and also blocks the operation of unauthorized adapters.
The SX-23e is a full-size, low-profile card which plugs directly
into a single expansion slot of a compatible computer. Installation
and hardware configuration are easily accomplished. Software
allows direct-to-disk recording and playback with selectable
interrupts and I/O addresses.
The SX-23e driver software included with the board is compatible
with Microsoft Windows, Windows NT and DOS based PC systems.
In Windows 3.1, the SX-23e supports Microsoft approved compression
formats and .WAV file formats, making it compatible with any
Windows 3.1 multimedia application.
Audio development kit allows customization of DOS applications
Also available is the optional Audio Developerment Kit (ADK).
Systems integrators and OEMs can now customize applications
in DOS, thereby fully utilizing the features of the SX-23e.
Languages supported include C, Pascal and BASIC.
The new SX-23e digital audio adapter with ISO/MPEG-1 and
Dolby AC-2 formats is designed and manufactured in the USA
by Antex Electronics Corporation, 16100 S. Figueroa St., Gardena,
